Footwork Comes Before Stroke
Why It Matters
In badminton, there's a saying: "30% technique, 70% footwork." Good strokes only happen when you reach the shuttle in the right position. Hitting the shuttle late or behind your body is the main cause of technical errors and weak shots.
How to Practice
- Focus on basic movement patterns such as the split step, side step, and crossover step.
- Always return to a ready position and use a split step before moving to the next shot.
- Even in multi-shuttle drills, add recovery and movement between shots to simulate real match rhythm—instead of standing still and waiting for the shuttle.
Key Movement Patterns
- Split Step: The foundation of all movement
- Side Step: For lateral movements
- Crossover Step: For reaching distant shots
- Recovery: Always return to center court position
